I recall a recent Saturday evening when I was “wiped slick!”  It had been a long day with many activities, leaving me drained of energy.  I questioned my ability to function in my preaching responsibilities the following day.  As I prepared for bed, I asked God to come to my aid and strengthen me for the tasks of the following morning.  To my delight, I awoke the next morning with a voice—not an audible voice, yet a very real voice—whispering in my ear:  The Holy Spirit is with you!  With a renewed sense of joy and confidence that God was empowering me, I eagerly embraced the day’s opportunities.

Do you ever feel like you are not up to the job?  Ever feel ill equipped, inadequate in meeting the demands life places upon you?  Regardless of who you are, what you do for a living, or what personal challenges you face, it is my hope you are learning to rely on God, the Holy Spirit, as your source of confidence and strength.

The Spirit acts in frequent, albeit unpredictable ways, as our friend and companion in this world. It is out of this conviction, that this guide to the work of the Holy Spirit was written.  While this six-week journey will assist you to grow in your understanding of the Holy Spirit and the Triune God, the main purpose of this work is to aid each sojourner’s relationship with God.  The Holy Spirit is God’s active presence, seeking to bring us into personal relationship and to an ever deepening friendship with God.

Six daily devotional exercises are provided with each week’s theme.  While these daily Pray Study Grow devotions will prove beneficial, journeying with others in a small group will be more impactful to you personally.  The Spirit leads us to experience the joy of sharing life in authentic Christian community. It is my prayer that as you move through these exercises, your trust and openness with those in your group grows and your desire for the Spirit increases.  May this be the cry of your heart: “Come, Holy Spirit!”

The Holy Spirit is with you! Enjoy the adventure!
