Dear Schweitzer Friends,
GROWING AS A COMMUNITY isn’t simply the title of our current message series. Growing as a Community is a genuine aspiration I have for Schweitzer. I don’t think it is a passing phase but a desire that truly comes from the heart of God. We long for a community that is founded in the community of interrelationships of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. J. D Walt in yesterday’s Daily Text (I hope you are a subscriber) states it well: “The reputation of the church in the world will never rise above the quality of relationships within it.” We grow in community by living more into the love God has for all of us. We grow in community by purposely connecting to others. We’ll talk more about this in worship this Sunday.
Here are ways how people of all ages can connect with each other and experience more of the community we all need:
Starting September 3, Kids in 1st through 6th grades will join together Sunday mornings from 9:10 to 9:35 in the Kids Worship space to praise the Lord with music. Through the joyful noise of singing, drumming, strumming, and clanging, kids will learn to praise and honor God through music. There will be opportunities for the kids to share their music throughout the year in worship and special events.
ALPHA is an 11-week course that is a great way to learn more about the foundations of Christian faith in an open and relaxed atmosphere— Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m., with a meal, childcare, and transportation provided. Join us August 30 at 6:00 p.m. for an introductory meal and info session!
Would you like to start at the beginning and get a thorough introduction to the Bible? “Getting Started in the Bible” is for you. Seven Wednesday nights beginning September 20, 6:30-8:00 p.m., in room 202.
If you’d like to go deeper in exploring the Bible in a setting that combines teaching from our pastors and guided discussion with friends, then join us for seven weeks of challenging and strengthening engagement with God through Scripture. Sundays at 5:00-6:30 p.m. or Wednesdays at 6:30-8:00 p.m. beginning September 17/20. (Tuesday morning also available.)
Covenant Discipleship Groups are the new small group model for anyone who desires a truer sense of Christian community and spiritual growth. To learn more, sign up for the 4-week launch class starting Sunday, September 10, from Noon to 2:00 p.m. by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Lunch and childcare are provided.

If you are new to Schweitzer and have questions about Jesus, the church, or would like to know how to get better connected, join me, Sunday, August 27, at 12:00 noon in Rm. 102/104. We will feed you great bbq, offer you a tour of the campus and get you headed home by 1:30. Childcare is available. To sign up, email Erinn Johnson, email@example.com.
There are countless ways you may connect with others at Schweitzer. What is your next step in growing in your relationships with God and others in experiencing community? See you in worship this Sunday!
