Dear Schweitzer Friends,
Little Books with a Big Punch invites us to visit a different small Old Testament Book each Sunday. We are hearing “the word of the Lord” through the prophet Nahum this week. The series is designed with a two-fold purpose: To improve our biblical knowledge by checking out some obscure biblical books and allowing these ancients prophets to speak a timely message into our lives.
Come join in for a workday to cleanup and prepare the groundwork for an inviting Prayer Garden for Schweitzer—8:00 a.m. until noon, Saturday, June 10. Meet at the parking lot just west of the Stanford Garden. Bring your work gloves and garden tools and prepare to get dirty.
LETS will meet Thursday, June 1, at 11:30 a.m. in Memorial Hall. John Sellers from Springfield History Museum will present a program on the interesting history of our area. Lunch is $8.00. RSVP to the church office 881-6800.
The Global Leadership Summit
The Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit, August 10-11, 2017, helps leaders to get better at leading. The GLS brings business leaders, futurists, and people who follow Jesus into a conversation about personal, community, and corporate leadership. Schweitzer, a GLS partner, has a special member rate of $99. The GLS is a simulcast to Ridgecrest Baptist Church. To learn more or to sign-up, contact Mary Decker at firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration deadline is June 18.
Vacation Bible School
Join us July 10–13, 9:00 a.m.–12 noon, for Maker Fun Factory VBS. Kids 3 years of age to those that have completed 5th grade will become hands-on inventors who discover they are lovingly crafted by God and built for a purpose! Sign up your kids or sign up to volunteer here: sumc.co/vbs-2017/
Memorial Day Weekend is a time of travel, getting together with family and heading for the lake. Whatever you are doing this weekend, be safe and pause to remember those who have passed before us, thinking of those in particular, who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
God bless you!
