I returned a few days ago from my second of five residencies in Selah–a certification program in spiritual direction. The beauty of the New Hampshire hills, time spent in excellent teaching, solitude in prayer, and engaging with fellow companions in responding to God’s actions in our lives were powerful combinations in renewing my spirit and challenging me to move forward to yet greater adventures with God! This rich and deep journey I am making with 12 other cohorts is not only preparing me to serve others through spiritual direction but truly a means by which I am becoming more intimate with God. The Selah program continues for me through June, 2018. I feel so blessed to be a part of this process as I continue joyfully to serve as your pastor. I look forward to Sunday at Schweitzer with lots of things happening!
We hit a snag with carpeting products in our efforts to have the chancel area completed by this Sunday. The bad news is a new order is being made with a delay in the chancel’s completion extending into December. The good news is the functionality of our new extended place will allow us to be in full operation, beginning this Sunday. Thank you for your patience in the process.
Schweitzer’s outreach, pastoral care, kids and youth, going deeper classes and groups are vivid expressions of transformation at Schweitzer. These ministries are tied to the ongoing generosity of our congregation. The regular practice of giving tithes and offerings deepens our walk with Christ and provides the financial resources our church needs. This Sunday, November 20, is Generosity Sunday, the day we ask all members of our church family to bring their 2017 PLANNED GIVING CARD to worship. Pray about what the Lord is leading you to do in your giving in 2017. If you are unable to be in worship this Sunday, you may go to this link http://sumc.co/transformation-happens-with/ and complete your Planned Giving Card online. You are also invited to view the multiple videos which tell stories of how transformation is occurring at Schweitzer.
We are serving about 200 adults and children in our food pantry every month. Help us fill our pantry shelves by bringing the following items with you to worship this Sunday. Money donations are also appreciated. Thank you for your support!
Canned fruit (15 oz), canned vegetables, cereal, oatmeal, Jell-O, peanut butter (16 oz), jelly (16 oz), spaghetti sauce (small), Spaghettios, canned Ravioli, Hamburger/Tuna Helper, saltine crackers, corn muffin mix, canned red, kidney or pinto beans, Pork ‘n Beans, tuna, canned meat, canned chicken, cooking oil, liquid dish soap, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, & shampoo.
Springfield One Thanksgiving Worship
This Sunday night!
Schweitzer will host a special worship service with our sister SPRINGFIELD ONE churches–East Sunshine Church of Christ, Glendale Christian, and Hope Church–this Sunday, November 20, 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. We enjoy a special relationship with these churches in spreading and living out the Good News of Jesus as ONE CHURCH in our neighborhood. As giving thanks is our theme, we will receive an offering for VICTORY MISSION to benefit those who may need some extra blessings we often take for granted. Come be a part of a special time of worship and fellowship with other believers!
Schweitzer’s Annual Church Conference will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Room 102/104. All members of the church are invited.
I look forward to a wonderful Sunday in worship!
