Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love its simplicity and non-commercialization. What an important reminder this day offers of the many blessings we often take for granted as we gather at tables with loved ones. We are staying home this year with Susan’s mom, sister and brother-in-law joining us from Kansas City. It is a special joy to have our son Jonathan fly in this week from Ohio so all our immediate family is with us. I will try to remember that only the turkey is supposed to get stuffed but I will probably forget! I hope your day is a special one. You may want to consider reading a Psalm at your family table–Psalm 100 works nicely!
We usher in the Advent Season this Sunday, November 27th. Our messages during this season will focus on John 1: 1-18 as we give witness to the hope we have in Jesus. We’ll light the Hope Candle during worship as we center our hearts on the Creator of the World coming “Down to Earth.”
We had a wonderful response last Sunday with 281 pledges totaling $1,170,000 in tithes and offerings in 2017. A Giving Plan helps us individually to remain faithful in setting aside our regular offerings to God and assists the church in being financially responsible in formulating ministry plans in the coming year. If you have not returned your planned giving card, would you do so this week? You may make your commitment online by going to

Pick up a STAR located on the Sanctuary windows, Fellowship Center, at the top of the Landing or in the Outreach Center. Please bring unwrapped toys to the Fellowship Center by Monday, December 12. The toys will be forwarded on to the Crosslines Toystore to give needy parents the ability to shop for Christmas gifts for their children.
If you would like to contribute $12.00 to help beautify our sanctuary for Christmas, contact Mary Beth, 881-6800 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for ordering is December 11.
LETS will meet on December 1 to celebrate Christmas with lunch and music from our own Senior Saints Choir and Joy Pickers Band. Join us at 11:30 a.m. in Memorial Hall for the fun. Cost of the meal is $8. RSVP to Deanna, 861-8636.
Schweitzer’s Annual Church Conference will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Room 102/104. All members of the church are invited.
Safe travels to those who are venturing out this weekend. If you are in town, I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday.
