Our grandson, Oren, and his mother, Alexandra, were having a deep theological conversation:
Oren: God has a very important job to do.
Alexandra: Yes, he does.
Oren: He gives us Legos.
Alexandra: He gives us all good things.
Oren: Yes he puts all the Lightning McQueens and the Tow Maters in the store.
These insights from a three-year old remind us of the generosity of God and the importance of specifically recognizing the blessings we enjoy. I encourage you to “count your blessings” as you gather around the table with family and friends. This Thanksgiving every member of my immediate family will be at the table together for the first time in many years, along with members of Susan’s family. Susan and I are particularly thankful for our family this year and for our church family, Schweitzer UMC. I am so grateful for all of you.
Thank you for your generosity! We had a wonderful response last Sunday with 280 giving commitments totaling $1,240,000 for 2018. God is creating a community at Schweitzer of caring hearts, community impact, deeper discipleship, and engaging worship – a place for all generations. Thank you for being part of this! If you have not returned your giving commitment card, would you please do so this week? You may find out more information and fill out a giving card online at be.sumc.co. Be part of this!
Praise and Thanksgiving!
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. the Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:4-7.
