Dear Schweitzer Friends,
I will be preaching in all our worship services this Sunday a message I am calling Building Culture at Schweitzer. In seeking to build a culture of Christ-like character, I will share with you three simple rules that we are following and Methodists have claimed since the days of John Wesley. I will also describe specific ways I am leading and am personally vested in the church “growing in every way more and more like Christ.” I hope you will make every effort to be here Sunday as I speak as forthrightly as I know how of what God is doing in building a true Christian community here. As always, I ask for your prayers for me and for the congregation.
As the fall season is upon, I encourage you to choose one of the following ways to grow deeper in your discipleship this month:
A small group model for anyone who desires a truer sense of Christian community and spiritual growth. To learn more, sign up for the 4-week launch class starting this Sunday, Sept. 10, Noon–2:00 p.m., in room 102/104. Email firstname.lastname@example.org. Lunch and childcare are provided.
A class experience that combines teaching from our pastors and guided discussion with friends. Join us for seven weeks of engagement with God through Scripture. Sundays, 5:00–6:30 p.m., or Wednesdays, 6:30–8:00 p.m., beginning Sept. 17/20 in room 204/206. (Tuesday morning also available in room 102/104.) Books are available, $10 suggested, note “book” on offering. Come to the first class having read the introduction and Chapter 1 of the book. Check the Schweitzer app for an audio companion to the book. Contact Jeff Fugitt, email@example.com.
Getting Started in the Bible starts at the beginning and gives a thorough introduction to the Bible. Seven Wednesdays beginning Sept. 20, 6:30–8:00 p.m., room 202. Contact Jeff Fugitt, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our Response to Hurricane Disasters
Our prayers and our hearts go out for the people devastated from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Here is how you can contribute to the long term effects as God’s people:
Amy Fuselier, Director of Relief Supplies at UMCOR, has invited United Methodists to prepare hygiene kits and cleaning buckets. Missouri currently has approximately 500 cleaning buckets that will be diverted to needed areas of the country when UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) calls. Help replenish our stock to enable swift response for this and future disasters. Visit UMCOR to learn how to make a cleaning kit ($65 value) or a hygiene kit ($12 value). You may drop off completed kits or cleaning buckets at Schweitzer, Monday-Friday, 9:00 to 2:00, during the next 30-60 days.
I look forward to seeing you in worship as I share how we are being shaped into God’s True Community.
