Dear friend,

As I write this on a Wednesday afternoon, the sun is shining and it’s 60 degrees!  So, why am I not outside?  There are some things I want you to know about coming up at Schweitzer during the next few weeks!

Financial Peace University (FPU) (9 weeks)

Need to get a handle on your finances? There’s no better time than in the new year! Join us for the Financial Peace University (FPU) class.

  • Sundays at 12:00, beginning Jan. 14, Rm. 102. Lunch provided.
  • FPU for young adults at 5:00, beginning Jan. 14, Rm. 102.

Cost of materials is $100. For more information, contact Jeff Fugitt, jfugitt@sumc.co.

Explore a bite-sized Bible verse each week with an emphasis on living out discipleship principles in community: Internalize it, live it, share it–Sundays, 9:40 a.m., in the Outreach Center beginning Jan. 21. Led by Jeff Fugitt.

When you’ve found Schweitzer is the place where you can live out your discipleship, come participate in our membership class. This one-session class will let you explore more deeply our core beliefs, values, and membership covenant. Take the next step and join us in Memorial Hall, noon-1:30, January 21. Food and childcare are provided. For more information or to sign up, contact Erinn Johnson, ejohnson@sumc.co.

Jobs for Life next session starts on Tuesday, January 16. We have openings for both students and champions, as well as, needing volunteers for providing meals. For more information or to enroll, contact Scott Warren, swarren@sumc.co.

Schweitzer’s Kids and Youth Ministries want to invite any child, Birth–12th grade, to come hang out on Wednesday nights at Schweitzer. Starting at 6:00pm, a free dinner will be provided in the Kids and Youth areas and everyone will have a blast growing in their faith walk, hanging out with their friends, playing games, and worshiping our Savior!
Kids Ministry — For more info, contact Angela Smith, asmith@sumc.co.
Youth Ministry — For more info, contact Tim Smith, tsmith@sumc.co.

Do you currently play Pickleball, or would you like to learn? This oddly named game is a combination of badminton, ping-pong, and tennis, and is currently the fastest growing sport in America. Come out and play, or just watch the fun on Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m., from January 9-February 13, in the Schweitzer Gym! Equipment is provided.

If you weren’t able to venture out to worship in the midst of the ice storm last Sunday, I invite you to go to sumc.co/messages for the first message in the series dead ends. This Sunday we’ll look at the struggle is real in dealing with anger as we address: What do we do about the culture’s anger, our personal anger and righteous anger? Take a peak at Ephesians 4: 25-32 in preparing for worship.

I am rooting for some sunlight for Sunday morning!  Regardless, I hope to see you at Schweitzer this Sunday.
