This weekend our country will celebrate its birth and liberty. The founders’ original expression of liberty was headed in the right direction, but it was far from perfect. In the imperfect union, liberty remained a deep thirst. The Apostle Paul saw the thirst for liberty in all people. Likewise, he knew how the thirst could be quenched. Paul writing to the Corinthians, who experimented with all manner of substances and ways of living, said, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom” (2 Cor. 3:17). On this Independence day weekend, may you celebrate the liberty which we enjoy because of the place we live. May you celebrate the freedom that comes regardless of where one lives or other circumstances, because God’s Spirit brings freedom.
Below are some ways the Lord is bringing Freedom to the people of the world.
Dylan Myers is a student at Missouri State. He is actively involved in the campus ministry STUMO and is an active worshiper at Schweitzer. This summer, Dylan is with a team in India, sharing faith and experiencing the bigness of God. Recently, Dylan sent a status update and said, “I have learned that God is a global God who wants the hearts of people not only from those in the United states, but across the world.” Please pray for Dylan and his team as they share faith in Jesus, grow in faith, and experience the bigness of God.
The Coach House at Schweitzer is about helping women who have been participants of Safe to Sleep transition to independent sustainability. Sunday, July 10th at noon we will have a special consecration of the Coach House. We will consecrate this house as a place where God’s Spirit is at work bringing forth freedom at many levels.
A new cohort of Jobs for Life begins July 18th. At the moment we have over 20 student applications. To have a great experience we are in need of Champions – people who journey with the students through the JfL experience and serve as a sounding board. If you would like to be a champion, contact Scott Warren at email@example.com and learn about the upcoming Champion training taking place on July 7.
Grow to Know Kids provides child care for school age children (K-5). Care is available when Springfield Public Schools are not in session. The cost is $25.00 per day or $100.00 per week, which includes breakfast, lunch, snack and lots of fun in a Christian environment. Make a reservation for your child by calling 881-6800 x216 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
This Sunday, we kick off a new sermon series, James: Faith That Works. We look forward to listening in as a brother of Jesus describes a life where we can be friends with God. It is a life with faith and action.
As you go about your day, be encouraged to invite the Spirit of the Lord to be present in your life and in the lives of those you encounter. May the freedom of the Spirit set your feet to dancing.
