Romans 1.12 – When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith,
but I also want to be encouraged by yours.
Good day Friends,
These aspirational lines in Paul’s letter to the church in Rome are on display at Schweitzer in countless ways—in classrooms and small groups, around table discussions, and in prayer rooms. One of the beautiful pictures I often get to see and be a part of is the reciprocity of encouragement through an active faith in Christ Jesus.
Encouragement that transpires within the church is desperately needed in the ordinary everyday lives of the communities we live in and our world at large.
As you participate in giving and receiving encouragement as a part of Schweitzer, where else can you bring good news of what God has done in Jesus? What practice could you put in motion?
Go for it!
Here is a way to encourage! Schweitzer’s Disaster Relief Team is calling for action in response to Hurricane’s Harvey and Irma. Three paths been established for us to contribute to relief: Cleaning Buckets (a full description follows), $, and people able to GO on a possible trip (no details yet). We will be collecting completed buckets and dollars on October 1. Contact Larry Summers, email@example.com, Disaster Relief leader, for more information.
The 12th session of Jobs For Life begins September 26th. JfL is a class session that helps people who are stuck in work or unemployment make and implement a plan for the future. JfL thrives because students are matched with champions whose role is to encourage. JfL has openings for Students, Champions, Van Drivers, and Meal preparation. Contact Scott Warren, firstname.lastname@example.org, if you would like to be involved.
This Sunday, we take our next step in the Romans series. We look forward to being together in worship.
As you go through this day, hear this prayer being said over us:
I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith in him is being talked about all over the world. (Rm 1.8)
