I welcome the opportunity to lead Going Deeper In Faith, our church-wide classes for adults of all ages this Season of Lent, Sundays, 5:00-6:30 p. m., beginning Feb. 18, or Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 p.m., beginning Feb. 21. The class will consist of teaching from me, but I won’t lecture. There will be table discussion, but we won’t get bogged down. You will not need to be a student of the Bible, but we will look at scriptures that has clear application to our lives. There will be time for reflection where you may examine your own faith journey. We’ll also identify the importance of spiritual practices and key relationships needed in moving forward (deeper) in faith. We will celebrate spiritual growth as well as name ways we can get spiritually stuck. We will journey together through the stages of faith.
All sessions will be in Memorial Hall below the church sanctuary. The book, Mansions of the Heart by Thomas Ashbrook, will be available for purchase ($20) as great background material but isn’t a requirement for the class. If you have not registered for the Sunday or Wednesday Class, would you take a moment now sumc.co/going-deeper-faith-class to register? Be sure and indicate if you are in need of childcare.
Here are some other opportunities for connecting to Schweitzer:
If you are new to Schweitzer and have questions about Jesus, the church, or would like to know how to get better connected, join me this Sunday, Feb. 11, at 12:00 noon in Memorial Hall. We will feed you great bbq, offer you a tour of the campus and get you headed home by 1:30. Childcare is available. To sign up, email Erinn Johnson at email@example.com.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. While God’s people once sat in ashes or placed ashes over their heads to show their desire to turn from their sin, Christians receive the ash markings of the cross as an outward symbol of an inner resolve to go deeper as a follower of Jesus. Worship Ash Wednesday at Schweitzer, February 14, 6:00-6:40 pm, in the sanctuary.
We conclude our series The Struggle is Real this Sunday with the message, Insecurity. Take a look at Ephesians 6:10-20 before coming to worship.
I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday!
