2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
11With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 3:1-3
1See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

Four animals live with us. We chose and named each one. We give them love and care. All four like me, but only one follows me. Ben is devoted. He lives to please me, and his identity and joy are found in my presence. With grief, I see that Ben’s simple heart follows better than mine.
These verses yield treasure, for they remind us that God is the one who makes us worthy! Jesus calls unlikely disciples. We are weak and selfish, yet he has chosen us. He loves us, and his power enables us. We do not begin our journey with him as perfect disciples, but he is committed to us. He extends himself into our lives, strengthening, shaping, and shining, until his glory is seen. Like Ben, we only follow with devoted and loving hearts.
