Acts 19 The Amphitheater: Ephesus – The Financers

Weekly Prayer

Kind Father
In a world of trade and business
Kindle in us inner strength through the Spirit
May Christ be at home in our hearts and in the places we work
May your love, which is longer, wider, higher, and deeper than we can imagine
May your love compel us to serve one another, and the poor, with gladness
Glory to Christ Jesus, Amen.

Memory Verse
Acts 19:11-12
God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.

Questions for Group Discussion

Icebreaker: What in life are you most passionate about?

• How did the disciples change after meeting Paul as he entered Ephesus? What’s the difference between John’s baptism and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ?
• What is the timeframe Paul spends preaching in Ephesus, and what does that suggest about the way we might approach evangelism in our own way?
• Why were the seven Jewish men unsuccessful in casting out the demon? Why did their experience of getting beaten up have a positive effect in spreading the gospels?
• What were the main motivations that drove Demetrius to stir up the riot in the theater? Why did Paul decide to heed his friends’ advice to stay away from turmoil that unfolded there?

While Both Paul and the silversmiths were passionate about their way of life, Paul’s message had a large transformative effect on Ephesus because God directly blessed his efforts. When we are passionate and sensitive to the Spirit as we share the gospel, God will bless our efforts too.
