Where’s Your Love?

Read James 4:4.

4You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

James is addressing his readers who were playing politics within the church, rallying others against each other, and putting their selfish ambitions above the mission of Jesus Christ. He refers to them as adulterous. As a believer in Christ, when one places selfish gains, pride, and worldly pleasures above the will of God, s/he has committed spiritual adultery. Friendship with the world, means seeking satisfaction through man made, temporary objects and feelings. Living to please yourself apart from God is spiritual adultery. God and God’s will should be the first love and ambition of his followers.

15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
