Tim Smith

Director of Youth Ministries
Originally from St Louis, Tim made his way to Springfield, MO to pursue a Psychology degree with Religious Studies minor. He got involved in a ministry, YoungLife, and discipled High School students for 5 years. After college, Tim worked at a bike shop while looking for youth ministry positions, and Schweitzer needed someone to minister to their students, so after 2 years at Sunshine Bike Shop, Tim came on staff at Schweitzer in January of 2008.

Tim hopes that the Youth of Schweitzer UMC will become true disciples of their faith. And by learning and applying Biblical truths to their lives, we hope the students will share their story in their schools and in their community in order to help everyone around them know the loving and caring nature of our Savior. Tim has high expectations of the youth at Schweitzer, and is commonly taken back by the students breaking the mold and going beyond expectation.

What’s your favorite thing about fall?

My favorite thing about fall is that it is the perfect time of year for someone that loves bikes. Wether it be motorized or pedal-powered, someone that loves to bike around loves the brisk mornings and evenings, as well as the scenery that comes with Fall. It is a perfect time of year to adventure by bike.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a child, I was like many other kids and wanted to grow up to be a veterinarian But my Grandpa told me that being a veterinarian doesn’t mean playing with animals all day. He told me that I would also have to put them down. Let’s just say my Grandpa crushed my childhood dreams. But I am better for it today.

What’s the furthest West you have travelled?

The furthest west I have traveld in the United States would be Maui. My wife and I were blessed to travel to Hawaii for our Honeymoon. We ate good food, drove the entire Road to Hana, accidentally walked up to a beach where most people seemed to forget their clothing, fought jet lag, and ate tons of fresh pineapple.

What can we pray for you for?

I would like prayers for the transition that my family is undertaking from living a life of a new married couple with no children to having a new, beautiful baby girl, Chloe, in our family.
