Caring for our Community

In Announcements, News by Jenn Brown

Schweitzer is a church that cares for our community. This statement is one that has long been part of our DNA – from growing outreach programs in new directions to meeting practical needs and offering encouragement.

During July, we’ve had the opportunity to demonstrate care in practical ways by hosting a Community Blood Drive and more recently, a Covid-19 vaccine clinic that was attended by 37 people.

Knowing how hard our healthcare community – especially in the Emergency Departments – a few people on staff found a way to deliver 20 dozen donuts to morning shifts doctors and nurses and 50 pizzas to the night shift at the Cox Emergency Department. A sweet Schweitzer family – the Rowes – also designed custom, “Thank you” notes to go along with the deliveries.

Our First Impressions Director, Sheila Pippin is working with some Schweitzer classes to arrange deliveries for Mercy, as well as chalk art encouragement for both hospitals.

If you have an idea for how we can encourage people working in our community, let us know. We’d love to hear. Contact Sheila Pippin at spippin@sumc.co.
