Pastor’s Note – February 27, 2020

In Pastor's Note by Schweitzer UMC

Friends,

This Sunday we’re going to start a new series called Behind The Scenes. We’re going to spend 6 weeks looking at people in the Bible you’ve probably never heard of but have made a HUGE difference. If it hadn’t been for these people I’m not sure what would have happened to the Christian movement.  These are instrumental people who were used by God. At the same time, these are generally not the people who preach the sermons, or write the books, or get churches named after them. These are folks who made a difference “behind the scenes.”

This series is built off a deep conviction of mine. I believe God wants to use all of us in significant ways to make a significant difference. Let me repeat that: God wants to use all of us. If you are in Christ, you have a role to play in this work God is doing. It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out in faith or have been at this a long time; if you are young or old; if you are wealthy or poor; if you have a sketchy past or have no regrets. God wants to use all of us.

Theologians have called this way of thinking “the priesthood of all believers.” This means that there are no such thing as “special Christians” that God uses (like pastors), but in reality everyone who is in Christ has been gifted and called to lead, influence, and make a difference.

In this series, we’re going to spend some time looking at some “ordinary” people who use their life and circumstances to make a difference. My hope is that as we look at each one of these simple things these people do that all of us will be inspired to think of our own lives and the difference we can make in our lives today. I’m praying for you that through this series you will be inspired to see your gifts and the circumstances in your life as an opportunity to make a difference for others.

I can’t wait to see you on Sunday!
