The new year has started, and I have officially begun my pastoral duties here at Schweitzer. I am so very excited to be off and running on this journey, but, at times, there is also fear.
One thing that has became very apparent during the Christmas season is that God is aware of the fear the enemy uses against us. Six times, just in the book of Luke, God says, “Don’t be afraid” knowing that the enemy uses fear to hold us back.
Luke 1:12 Zechariah was shaken and overwhelmed with fear when he saw him. 13 But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer.
Luke 1:29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God!
Luke 2:9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, 10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.
Luke 5:10 Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus
Luke 8:50 But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed.”
Luke 12:32 “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.
The enemy has been using fear to hold us back from God’s plan since the beginning of time. Matthew West has a great song called “All In” (I will attach it to the bottom of this letter). In the lyrics of the song, he says, “fear is just another word for regret.” I said no to becoming a pastor at first because of fear. Now I have learned that when I am scared I am on the right track and the enemy would like for me to turn around and not to follow through with God’s plan. Fear never comes from God. I don’t want to have regrets, so I face the fear knowing that God has great plans for me.
I know God has something amazing in store for you this year. Don’t let fear hold you back from what God is calling you to do. Step to the edge, take a deep breath, and go all in, don’t let the fear win.
