Pastor’s Note – July 25, 2019

Schweitzer UMCPastor's Note

Vacation Bible School is around the corner. This weekend, volunteers will be at the church decorating the building for the incredible week ahead. VBS starts next Monday. So far we have almost 400 kids signed up with over 100 volunteers. Incredible!

Vacation Bible School is a HUGE week for our church! And not just because it’s a ton of fun for the kids, and not because we decorate the church and not just because we have so many volunteers spending their time and energy. VBS is a huge week for us because of our mission “to transform lives by making disciples of Jesus Christ.”

People who study church statistics have taught us that the most likely time for someone to accept Jesus Christ as their savior is as a child or teen. Investing in ministry to the next generation is one of the absolute best ways we can spend our time and money. We are setting up the next generation to know and serve Jesus Christ. There will be some kids who look back at this week and say “that’s when I met Jesus.” (By the way, this is my wife’s story—she met Jesus at a VBS as a kid.)

Here’s my ask for you today. Spend some time praying for our HUGE week coming up. Here are a few specific things to pray for:

  • For young hearts to be open and ready to hear what God has for them.
  • For kids with no church home to be welcomed and loved in a way that shows them God’s love for them.
  • For our volunteers to have energy and patience

Psalm 145:4 “One generation will commend your works to another.”

I can’t wait to see you Sunday!
