Pastor’s Note – September 26, 2019

Schweitzer UMCPastor's Note

Friends,

This weekend, we’re wrapping up our sermon series Go. We’ve spent the last four weeks unpacking the Great Commission:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Sometimes when we talk about sharing our faith, we end up feeling guilty. Studies show that many of us do not actively share our faith. There are a number of reasons for this; however, the end result is often the same: we feel guilty. Sharing our faith is one of those things we know Jesus wants us to do but is also so intimidating.

This Sunday, as we wrap up, we’re going to talk about this guilt that we feel. I’m going to share with you the good news message about sharing the Good News. I hope you you’ll be with us!

I have two other things for you today:

  1. One of our values as a church is Deeper Discipleship. We want to help people grow. Our Director of Adult Discipleship, David Freeman, has put together a survey we’re asking the church to take as we are continually looking for more and better ways to help people grow. Please help us help you in following Jesus by completing this survey: Adult Discipleship Survey.
  2. The Urban Summit is around the corner. This is an event we have created to bring together people from our community who are working towards restoration. Core to our church’s DNA is a drive for Community Impact. We are not a church that is just for us, we are here for our community. The Urban Summit is meant to pull together voices from across the city for us to dream of ways to further work for the restoration of people in our city. The Urban Summit is for all who are interested in using their lives to restore others. You can sign up for this one day event at sgfurban.org.

I can’t wait to see you Sunday as we wrap up our Go series.
