Congratulations, Confirmation Class of 2019!

Pray for the future of Schweitzer

Linda Harper will be leading us in a time of prayer for the upcoming transition at Schweitzer at noon on Wednesdays, beginning tomorrow, April 24 through May 29. We will pray specifically for Pastor Spencer and family, Pastor Bob and Susan, First United Methodist Church in Kearney, and Schweitzer Church. We invite you to join us for in the Garden Chapel, or if you can’t make it, we encourage you to pray with us at that time. All participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

Alpha is a place to bring your friends, family, and colleagues to explore Faith, ask questions, and share points of view.

Do you have faith questions, or know someone who does? Would you like a safe place to ask those questions and discuss openly in a small group? Alpha will be doing a summer session! Open House Kick-Off for more information will be Sunday, May 19 from 9:40 to 11:00 a.m. in the Outreach Building Conference Room.

Is Schweitzer where you want to live out your discipleship?

When you’ve found Schweitzer is the place where you can live out your discipleship, come participate in our Exploring Membership Class. This one-session class will let you explore more deeply our core beliefs, values, and membership covenant. Take the next step and join us in Memorial Hall on Sunday, May 5, 12:00-1:30 PM. Food and childcare are provided.

Did You Know?

Did you know that our Schweitzer Community Garden, located on the north side of our parking lot, has a total of 80 plots? There are about 40 gardeners, mostly who have two plots each. Many of those avid gardeners are part of a wonderful Burmese community. Ken Bass and Colette Freeman are the contacts for the Garden. We still have 8 plots left, and they are $10 per year per plot.

We are excited to share that Jayne Markin, our Assistant Youth Director, has been appointed to be the full-time pastor for Bernie UMC in Bernie, MO and Sadler’s Chapel in Dexter, MO beginning July 1. She has been working with our youth and their families for almost five years. During this time, God has placed a call on her heart to step into full-time ministry. While she is excited for this new adventure that God is taking her and her family on, it will be hard to leave the Youth Ministry at SUMC.

“The Youth Ministry has become my family. Saying goodbye will not be easy, but I am grateful that I have two more months full of great youth events. Thank you for all the amazing ways I have been able to serve the Youth Ministry!” ~Jayne Markin
