Schweitzer News – December 31, 2019

Schweitzer UMCNews

The once empty hallways surrounding the Schweitzer Kids desk have been brought to life by the new Children’s Art Gallery. With framed pieces completed by all ages through sixth grade and inspired by the Word of God, this artwork displays the deepening discipleship and imagination of our youngest church members. A stroll through this newly enlivened area of the church envelops you in vibrant blues, violets, crimsons, and greens – all the shades of God’s creation – colorfully illustrating His words. From grand landscapes of sheep grazing on rolling hills to the abstract, the artistic genius of Schweitzer’s finest and youngest is displayed in every frame.

Schweitzer Children’s Ministry and Grow to Know Preschool share a vision to continue this gallery as a yearly tradition, producing new masterpieces. The pieces currently hanging are planned to be auctioned to further support the discipleship of children at the end of next year. We invite you to come and relish in the artistry of our newly opened Children’s Gallery.

“One thing I ask… to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” – PS 27.4

On December 18, 2019 the southeast windows in the sanctuary received stained glass inserts that will add a profound sense of beauty to the worship experience. The windows are a generous gift by Bill and Virginia Darr. The windows were designed by Kristin Strong, along with Sarah Peacock and Mike Hembree from Merry-Go-Round Stained Glass. The windows use the 7 colors of the rainbow and they represent the 7 “I Am’s” of Jesus from the Gospel of John. Starting January 12, the sermon series will appeal to the windows as we talk about Jesus in the Present Tense. Join us on January 12 as we dedicate the windows and every Sunday as we gaze on the beauty of the Lord!

We are excited to announce a new outreach ministry happening here at Schweitzer!

Over the past year, we have seen an increase in our unsheltered friends needing help. In response to this need, we have started a work program through the pantry. Our new friends will go through a screening process and then be able to help in the food pantry warehouse. In exchange, they will get access to food monthly and warm clean showers. We have two individuals participating currently. We ask for your prayers for this ministry as it gets off and running.
