Recent Puerto Rico Mission Trip
As part of Missouri United Methodist efforts, Schweitzer recently sent six representatives to Vieques Island in Puerto Rico to help with the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Maria. Locals expressed their gratitude for the emotional support from having people come to help. The church broke into applause when Pastor Alex announced that our team was from the church that had provided a van. The teams of volunteers going to the island have made it possible for a number of Puerto Ricans to have employment, including some that had only recently been able to return from the U.S. mainland, where they had come for work after the storm. Support of food vendors and other businesses also contributes to the local economic recovery.
Our team was able to help in several homes, as well as finally close in the roof of the church that had been open to the weather for over a year. The team will share their experience on December 16 at 9:40 in Room 206 for anyone who wishes to attend. You can see the before and after videos here:
We are excited to announce that Dillon Brown will be joining the Schweitzer staff on January 2 as the new Assistant Director of Children’s Ministry. Dillon has a degree in Recreation, Sports, and Park Administration from Missouri State University, and he is very passionate in impacting the lives of others, especially youth. He has attended Schweitzer since 2007 and serves in many areas at Schweitzer – he is a Youth leader, plays the drums in the Praise Band, and has led Bible studies for the Boy Scouts. He has also worked in Student Ministries at Campbell UMC, taught Sunday School, and developed and led Children’s worship. Welcome, Dillon!
