The E. Stanford Community Garden

In Announcements, Events by Schweitzer UMC

Currently, more than 50 gardeners make use of this space, planting and harvesting over 70 plots. This community garden space is especially used by the local Burmese community. Ken Bass, who serves as the garden manager shared with us some basic needs that would encourage this growing community.

“I’d love to see people from Schweitzer who enjoy gardening be part of this ministry. There are many ways to assist with upkeep and coordination of the overall space, and to interact with people from different cultures while learning about gardening together,” Ken said, adding that additional new picnic tables are a real need this year. “These tables are a place where kids sit and color, families come and watch, and neighbors come and dine.”

If you’d like to donate a new or gently used picnic table, contact the church office or email Jason LeiningerInterested in volunteering in the garden? Respond to this email and we’ll send you more details!

The Neighborhood Garden is located on Schweitzer’s campus right behind the outreach center.

Also, recently the Springfield Community Gardens – who is an active partner with our garden – put up the frame for a Hoop House that will create more opportunities for community gardeners.
